EIA reports a smaller-than-expected weekly drop in U.S. natural-gas supply

The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported Thursday that domestic supplies of natural gas fell by 206 billion cubic feet for the week ended Dec. 29. Analysts surveyed by S&P Global Platts forecast a decrease of 219 billion, while the five-year average withdrawal is 99 billion. Total stocks now stand at 3.126 trillion cubic feet, down 192 billion cubic feet from the year ago and five-year averages, government data showed. February natural gas NGG18, +0.80% fell 1.5 cents, or 0.5%, to $2.993 per million British thermal units, down from $3.034 before the data.
