New Zealand’s trade surplus widened more than expected last month, official data showed Tuesday. The merchandise trade balance surplus to NZ$242 million in June, from a revised $74 million surplus the month before, Statistics New Zealand said. Analysts in a median estimate called for the surplus to reach $147 million. With the June results, Wellington has registered a trade surplus in four of the last five months. On a quarterly basis, New Zealand’s trade deficit was $479 million in June, or 3.5% of exports. Goods exports climbed 9.9% to $13.5 billion compared to the first quarter.
