June Canadian Employment Jumps 45,300, Rate-Hike Speculation Intensifies

Canadian employment increased 45,300 for June compared with an expected increase of around 12,000 for the month. This was the second successive month that the data substantially exceeded expectations following a 54,500 gain for May. Full-time employment increased by 8,100 for the month and there was an annual increase of 1.7% in the year to June with an employment increase of close to 250,000. There was an increase in part-time employment of 37,100 for the month while there was a 3.0% increase over the year.
