Dollar index falls despite pound’s weakness

The British pound dropped to a nearly seven-year low versus the dollar Wednesday, but it wasn’t enough to push a widely watched gauge of the dollar’s strength into positive territory. The ICE U.S. dollar index DXY, -0.08% a measure of the buck’s strength against a basket of six rivals, was down 0.2% at 97.3000. The euro is its most heavily weighted constituent. The index started the session at a three-week high as worries about the U.K.’s uncertain future in the U.K. weighed on the pound and euro.
