US crude inventories rise by 4.8M barrels to record highs

U.S. crude inventories rose for the 12th straight week by 4.8 million barrels in the week to March 27, according to data from the Energy Information Administration released on Wednesday. Total stockpiles stood at 471.4 million barrels, the highest amount on record. Oil prices moved higher on the data, which came in slightly above expectations but below a figure from an industry trade group on Tuesday that showed a build of 5.2 million barrels.
