Growing support for Scottish independence hit the pound on Tuesday, as a new poll put the Yes campaign within "touching distance of victory". Sterling fell by almost a cent against the dollar to $1.6521 on Tuesday morning after a YouGov poll showed support for a Scottish exit jumped by eight points in the last month to 47pc, compared with 53pc who said they planned to vote no.
