Interest rates lifted by Reserve Bank of New Zealand

The Reserve Bank is raising official interest rates again, to 3.5 per cent, but that is it, for now. The central bank is also warning that the high dollar is "unjustified and unsustainable" and could fall significantly. But after today's move up in the cash rate, from 3.25 per cent, the central bank says there will be an unspecified pause. "It is prudent there now be a period of assessment before interest rates adjust further towards a more neutral level," Governor Graeme Wheeler said in a statement out this morning. Today's move up in rates will push up floating mortgage rates, from levels of about 6.5 per cent. ... (full story)
