Thank you for that introduction and to all of you for coming today. It is a pleasure to deliver my first public speech as Governor of the Bank of Canada here in the heart of southern Ontario, especially since we are just down the road from my hometown of Oshawa. This region is a historic centre of Canadian industry and commerce. It is home to some of Canada’s most storied businesses and prestigious centres of learning.
