There are reports of a major tax revolt on Greek island Hydra. Angry islanders have attacked tax inspectors deployed from the mainland and besieged the police station for one day. As part of a national clamp-down on tax evasion, Greek tax inspectors are investigating the islands where tax evasion is most widespread. Inspectors challenged a bar owner on the popular Hydra island on the basis that she had never issued any VAT receipts, but she fainted, whereupon the inspectors arrested her son for tax evasion.
