China's November consumer prices fall, factory-gate deflation persists

China's consumer prices extended their decline in November while factory-gate deflation deepened, as persistent weakness in demand casts doubts over the sustainability of the economic recovery. The consumer price index (CPI) dropped 0.5 per cent in November both from a year earlier and compared with October, data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed on Saturday (Dec 8). In October, the CPI fell 0.2 per cent year-on-year. Analysts polled by Reuters expected the CPI to fall 0.1 per cent both year-on-year and month-on-month.
