The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) was unchanged in October on a seasonally adjusted basis, after increasing 0.4 percent in September, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Over the last 12 months, the all items index increased 3.2 percent before seasonal adjustment. The index for shelter continued to rise in October, offsetting a decline in the gasoline index and resulting in the seasonally adjusted index being unchanged over the month. Consumer prices rose at slower pace in October as a drop in oil prices dragged down headline inflation, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics released Tuesday morning. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 0% over last month and 3.2% over the prior year in October, a deceleration from September's 0.4% monthly increase and 3.7% annual gain in prices. Both measures were slightly better compared to economist forecasts of a 0.1% month-over-month increase and a 3.3% annual increase, according to data from Bloomberg.
