Quoting piccoloDislikedIt cannot be done. I have heard of a guy who hacked/cracked metatrader to do this and not only forward past data but also fast forward it.. however, I don't know the guy and as far as I know he is not willing to sell it (even if he would, he would have to face some legal problems).
On the other hand there isn't much to it. I suppose if you had a metatrader server and gave it custom data feed (like from last year) it should paint the charts same as a year before and you could forward test it but the problem is time.. you could only forward test it at live speed (1 minute on chart is one minute in life) but you would probably want to test it at warp 10.Ignored
Quoting fxwiseDislikedThe problem is that it is the metatrader server software that metaquotes charge lots of money for, only the client software is given away for free.
If somebody were to connect a network analyser to their Internet connection they could probably work out the client to server protocol and write a simple program to simulate the server and play back prices. It would be quite a lot of work and of course would break the software license agreement.
The software does have a back-testing feature, but I would assume it only works from bar data not from tick-by-tick data (so it will suffer from the usual problems of not knowing which came first: the low of the bar or the high of the bar, and not being able to correctly judge slippage on stops).Ignored
