ntrr, do you know the specs of your current laptop? processor? ram? operating system? Before you put money into a new machine, you might as well see what you can get out of your current one (ram is a cheap upgrade to add more speed)... if it's worth it.
I have a 4 year old Dell laptop myself (windows 7, 4gb ram, 2.27ghz intel processor), and I also experienced huge lag using Alien's indicators, but I found a few things that helped...
1) I uploaded a template which uses "light" (aka resource friendly) versions of most of Alien's indicators... have you tried loading that up?
2) Open MT4, click on "Tools" then "Options" then go to the "Charts" tab... Drastically reduce the numbers in "Max Bars in History" and "Max Bars on Chart"... try 20,000, or 10,000, or 5,000 (keep decreasing until your speed increases).
3) 8 charts windows is a lot for Alien indicators on a slow laptop.. do you need all of them open at once? I found that creating profiles with 4 windows open at a time has worked for me.
4) Get Ccleaner and Defraggler from www.piriform.com ... get the free versions. Use Ccleaner to "Clean" your windows programs and other applications. Also use it to clean your registry, and wipe the EMPTY space on your harddrive. ... Use Defraggler to defrag your harddrive.
I would try all of the above before buying something new.
NOTE: Drive wipes and Defragging take a long time, so let these run overnight if you go ahead with this.
