A cheaper alternative may be iress. I use them and its costs me about 600 per month. Expensive enough but they are cheaper than Bloomberg, reliable and listed in Australia so wont run away with your money.
It leads me to a question. For some years I have been doing a quasi index arbitrage on the ASX 200 whereby I exploit price variance between the printed index price and those provided by market makers i.e. say CMC is quoting the xjo as 4000 and the real pricing is 4006 (trust me this happens all the time) I short one contract with provider a and buy another contract with provider b then wait until the prices converge. I am trying to replicate the strategy for the FTSE 100 but am finding it hard to get the appropriate data. What I am looking for is a data provider that produces a quasi index price for the FTSE based on the underlying constituent data. This means that you get an estimated price every second rather that waiting the traditional 15 seconds for the FTSE print. IRESS do this on the asx under code XJODFS but not for the footsie. My searches have found that Bloomberg do this for the FTSE but I am not that keen to sign up for a 24k two year deal if I can avoid it. Can anyone point me in a different direction ? I would be most happy to provide the exact details of the strategy for someone's personal use (which I assure all is low risk and very profitable) if they can steer me towards a cheaper alternative.
