Btw, speaking of hedging, it is not a bad idea to use the Three Dragons concurrently with averaging down. It does take some skill to keep the order flow correct, but screen time and a demo account will fix that.
Another bad habit when it comes to averaging down is trading multiple pairs that are very closely correlated. Putting a dime lot on A/J, G/J, and E/J, is the same as putting 3 dime lots one any ONE of those pairs. If a trader does not pay attention to correlation, it will skew their risk profile, and that is another way to get burned, so be careful about that.
