DislikedHowever, and this may sound as an overstatement coming from me as I don't have any experience coding mt4 indi's, David could make an attempt at fine tuning the code such that it's not so resource intensive. I say this because I have seen a very similar indicator, or shall I say tool (it's an MT4 coded indicator too) in action without the intensity and machine load as that of RS. In fact, it's THE TOOL for any fx trader worth his money. And it's more in the form of a GUI than and indicator hence I prefer calling it a tool. You are on good rappo with...Ignored
There's not much that I can do to fine tune the code. The strength indy is not excessively resource hungry; it's more a reflection of the fact that, in order to calculate across-the-board strength, it must gather and process data from up to 28 pairs x 9 different timeframes. In other words, perform up to 250 times as much processing as a 'normal' one pair/one timeframe chart.
You can choose to process/display only the timeframes that you want to see. If you aren't interested in the shorter TFs (M1, M5, etc), then I'd suggest removing them from the list in the TimeFrames parameter.
If you have RefreshEveryXMins set to 0, the whole gather/calculate/replot process occurs for every new price tick, which I expect could slow lower-spec computers to a virtual standstill (hence the warning in the instructions). If you set it to 1, the process occurs once every minute (every time a new M1 candle starts to form); to 5, every 5 minutes; and so on. The less often the process has to be performed, obviously the less overhead on the computer.
Alternatively, there are other strength indys that you might like to try (use the FF or forex-tsd search engines to find them). There is nothing special about 'my' RS indy; if it leads to profitable trading, it is not the indy itself, but the concept of strength that's important. Any indy that's capable of calculating strength accurately will do a similar job.
Sorry, Benji, for interrupting your thread. I'll disappear again now.
