Like Mr E said, fuzzy logic relies on a range of values versus a single absolute. Because each broker's MAs are at slightly different price, we need to allow for interpetation, rather than an exact price point. (but they can come awfully close at times)
Using higher period MAs for SR has nothing to do with lag. I think people confuse this use of MAs with trading faster MA crosses which of course lag because because they need to factor back 5 or 8 periods to calculate price. Even so, Properly calibrated fast MAs can often signal good entries if used properly.
The whole argument against averages is kind of silly. All TA relies on rules to compare price against, and all rules are established by averaging, so it's impossible to analyse the market without averages.
