DislikedGood morning Tah, thank you for your analysis on my chart yesterday and for the in-depth explanation.
[color=black][font=Verdana]I am still using pivots as well from time to time, however I am using the TZPivots 3.5 you recommended a few weeks ago. My broker is GMT+2 so the settings I used was Hrs ServerTzFromGMT 2 and Hrs ChoiceTzFrom GMT...Ignored
I have not been using the TzPivots for many, many months, so I was unaware of a problem with it. As I started to work with the Tz code in order to provide a SonicR specific TZ pivots indy upgrade, I became aware of a problem. CaveMan's DST code addition to the indy adds an extra hour shift, where appropriate, during DST. The problem is that this added hour shift occurs whether or not the user specifies time shifted pivots. If the user sets the two TZ number inputs the same, in order to get broker server pivots which are not time shifted, the DST code still adds the hour shift. CaveMan inserted a DST true/false in the external inputs, but the user must remember to change it to false if selecting broker server pivots during DST (now).
This was all too cumbersome for me. I talked with CaveMan about a prospective change to his code that I made to further automate DST so the user would not have to shut it down to get proper broker server pivots during DST. He has checked it over and given the "ok", so I plan an upgrade to TzPivotsD_v3.5 which will take care of this.
Now the difference between your pivots and mine may be due to this. I believe I have displayed in my charts pivots based on broker server, i.e., not time shifted. And not being aware that I needed to turn DST "off", I was getting wrong pivots. Just be informed that if you want the TzPivotsD indy to yield broker server pivots (not time shifted) during DST (now), you must turn DST "Off" in the external inputs. The next upgrade will eliminate the need to do this. If your settings are to get time shifted pivots, then you do not need to worry; in this mode it is fine, DST or not DST.
Another thing I notice is that you may have your TzPivotsMW set to the Daily pivot formula, but your TzPivotsD set to the Fibonacci formula. Whereas I believe I have displayed only the Daily formula on my charts. In the attached chart, I have reset just the TzPivotsD to the Fibonacci formula, to match what I believe your settings are. You will note there is still minor differences. These are due to different broker servers....their OHLC for the day candles might all differ by a small amount, affecting the pivot calculations. Remember, not all brokers even in the same time zone will necessarily show the exact same data, as they have different servers and different liquidity providers, and so sometimes different OHLC data!
Use pivots only as a ballpark reference, not an exact level that can be relied on!
BTW, when using the TzPivotD and TzPivotMW indys with my new template, you can remove the blue chart panel created by the TzPivotsD indy. In the external inputs, go down to the section for panels and turn it off; change "Show_Data_Panel" to "false".
The last chart shows the adaptation of the TzPivotsD indy to the new template when selecting time shifted pivots; a much cleaner look. The DST problem is fixed in this. So it is easy to switch between broker server pivots and time shifted pivots anytime during the year.
