Barack Obama:
"Today, I fully support the effort of Secretary Paulson and Federal Reserve Chairman Bernanke to work in a bipartisan spirit with Congress to find this kind of solution.
What we're looking at right now is to provide the Treasury and the Federal Reserve with as broad authority as necessary to stabilize markets and maintain credit."
And sorry, it does matter that the guy that was supposed to be overseeing all of it, is now head of the US treasury.....Ignored

Dislikedthis is spot on...according to the thinking at the time (not that I agree with their thinking). Rep. Paul Kanjorski broke down the sequence leading up to the events. It all started with a purported 550 billion electronic "run on banks". It's been awhile since I viewed the clip that appeared on cspan, but it's worth viewing if you haven't seen it. I believe kanjorski mentions paulson several times.Ignored
