We are all doomed.
SOLINGEN, Germany, Sept 29 (Reuters) - Euro group chief Jean-Claude Juncker called on Monday for increased international cooperation to try to limit the impact of the financial crisis and said the turbulence will clearly hit growth in Europe hard.
'The financial crisis will leave deep skid marks in Europe and will be affecting us for many months to come,' he said in comments to journalists in the western town of Germany ahead of an awards ceremony.
Juncker, chairman of the euro zone finance ministers and prime minister of Luxembourg, added that he welcomed calls by French President Nicolas Sarkozy for a meeting of world leaders to set the global financial system on a sounder footing.
'I welcome the Sarkozy initiative,' he said, adding the French president had invited him and European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet to take part in advance talks before such a summit meeting.
'We need to discuss a systemised international mechanism that would defend against such crises.'
Juncker, who is also the Finance Minister of Luxembourg, declined to comment on whether Europe needs a U.S.-style rescue package for European banks.
