11:35 Dec 21 (GMT+1) On Brexit a number of UK MPs have this morning called for an extension to the transition period, currently ends at 23:00GMT on 31st December, given the recent COVID-19 developments with MPs also noting the amount of progress that has been made so far. e.g. - Tobias Ellwood - https://twitter.com/Tobias_Ellwood/status/1340967571500183553 - Simon Hoare - https://twitter.com/Simon4NDorset/status/1340944973752119298 Analysis 11:40 (GMT+1) - As a reminder, there is currently no legal basis for an extension to the transition period as the UK declined this option earlier in the year - However, reports note that, theoretically, the EU and UK gov'ts could generate an international agreement to allow for a temporary extension - as this would be outside of EU law. Although, any such extension could see legal challenges.
