has anybody of you guys ever attempted to value countries? For companies we have essentially one medium by which we can value them (financial statements) and several methods that put a number on a company (DCF, multiples,...)
In the end countries also only have assets (companies & (human)resources), which are financed by debt and cash-flows generated by them. So shouldn't it be possible to put a number on countries too?
And I realize that this is probably going to be a philosophical discussion, cause I don't think that most people ever attempted to do something like that, except some professional firms or the government itself. So come out with your opinions and / or thoughts on how this could be accomplished, which variables one would need to value a country and its currency,...
