So I decided to start a fresh journal for a brand new year!

I aim to attempt to trade full time from April but only if I can remain profitable between now and then.

What ever the outcome this is going to be the place where I talk about the highs, lows and just about anything else that comes to mind.

I will post charts for my longer term swing trade but for my day trades it just wouldn't make sense as there isn't enough time.

I would say however that no one should follow my trades as I am not a professional yet, although one day I hope I might be. So with that in mind I would welcome contributions for other members on where you feel I can improve etc.

I will details my strategies below.

Emporia!

I trade both long term and short term. The entry criteria on both are very similar. The only real difference is with the longer term stuff I tend to take more input from the fundamentals than I do with the shorter term stuff.

I try to play out fundamental themes on the longer term where as on the shorter term I am literally just playing the volatility!

With both time frames I look to trade in the direction of the major trend but use the pull backs as my entry points.

I mainly trade Forex although I also look at the Indices as well as the Commodities.

Hey Emporia,

Good luck with your 2013 journey. I shall follow to see how you do! I'm a professional trader and I will be starting a thread in this section too for 2013 to show others that it can be done.

I wish you a smooth transition to full time trading.

OK so the longer term trades that I am looking at for the first few weeks of 2013 are:

Long
NZDJPY
GBPJPY
EURJPY
USDJPY
AUDJPY
EURCAD
EURUSD
EURNZD
EURAUD
EURGBP
NZDCAD

Short
GBPCHF
USDCHF

Now I know that there are a lot there and I completely don't intend to take them all but from a technical perspective on the Daily charts they are interesting. I am now going to wait for the pullback and judge the entries when we get there.

OK after doing more analysis on my charts I have updated my watch list to the following:

AUDJPY
USDJPY
NZDJPY
GBPJPY
EURJPY
CHFJPY
CADJPY
USDCHF
NZDCHF
GBPCHF
AUDCHF
CADCHF
EURNZD
EURCAD
EURUSD
EURAUD

The common theme seems to be Eur strength, Yen weakness and Franc strength.

I am waiting for pull backs to key areas of support or resistance on all of them, but I am going to be hesitant to take any trade before the 7th of January 2013 as the markets are pretty quiet and the big money probably isn't about.

Having said that, if I get the perfect price action I will certainly have to consider it.

OK so in the interest of trying to always learn new things and improve as trader I have joined the James16 private group, so I will be incorporating some of their PA setups in my longer term stuff as well.

I got recommended this group through a PM from one of the members so lets see how it goes... If there are any other James16 traders out there please feel free to jump in and let me know if what I am doing is correct :-)

Looking at the charts again this year and taking into account potential James16 setups I can safely say we are not short of opportunities to begin the year with... The challenge is going to be picking the right trades.

From a shorter term perspective, I am looking to go long the EURUSD at the moment.

The holiday season is now well and truly behind us and it is time to get hands to the deck. I took a J16 trade last week on the GBPUSD which was short off of a pin bar at a key level.

I came out way too early but I guess learning to hold a position is something I will learn. I ended up with a little less than 1:1 so that is ok, but it is also positive to see that price hit my initial target which was over 1:1.

Looking at the charts now for the week and will come back when I have some trading ideas.
