Hi i`m researching about the fluctuation of spread, how does it fluctuate and in which hours its the lowest.I`m using a scientific approach to check what its distribution is and how does it distribute itself in different trading hours.
For example: LONDON-NY session, is having a low spread than outside it for EUR pairs.
Or the Sydney - Tokyo -Shanghai for the AUD and JPY pairs is also showing a low spread.
Low spread also indicates quiet market with less volatility so this research could also give me, and the readers a nice insight about how the volatility of the market is distributed. Thus i`m mainly interested in the spread, since low spread = high success.
Have you ever wondered when your spread is the most favorable ? Now you can actually measure the fluctuation of your spread which gets logged in a text file.So by helping this project, just log your spread and upload your log here, so that you, me and every reader can analyze the fluctuation of the spread in every hour, and on various brokers.
How to do it?
Simple, i coded a quick indicator which measures the spread and writes the current spread, after every tick, in a file.
The file's location is usually at: C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\MetaTrader\experts\files (for windows 7 64 bit as i have, if you have 32 bit then probably in "program files" without "(x86)" there)
Note, AppData folder may be a hidden folder in your PC so you have to make it visible.
Note this indicator is only for MT4
The file will write the current hour, minute, second and the spread which is available at that particular time.
Also the file name will contain the hour/minute/second when the indicator was initialized AND the name of the instrument to not confuse them.
The plan

The plan
- Simple, just put the indicator in your indicators folder, and then load it on every chart, and then the indicator will log the spread into a .txt file.
- So please if anyone will help me with this project, then run the indicator, and upload here the log file, because i would like to see what your spread was and how did it fluctuated in every hour.
- It doesn't matter if you have different broker than me, the more brokers data the better, please write down what broker you have in your post so i can categorize the files
- Run the indicator for at least a few hours and on as many pairs as you want, the more the better, but i would appreciate at least 1 day worth of spread data to be a quality info
- After a few weeks of this project i will crunch the numbers, and finally see how the spread is distributed, and you can too if you get all log files and use excel to analyze the data
- This project will help use all to better understand how the spread is distributed, and since low spread = high probability of success, meaning that this will help us to understand how are the high probability setups distributed
- NOTE: only help us if your broker has variable spread, fixed spread doesnt tell us much info...
Here is the spread logger indicator, THANKS AHEAD FOR YOUR HELP! :
(oops it had a small bug in it, here is the fixed version)
