I am wondering if there is a general equation as to what the best pairs to trade are when factoring in spread vs. volatility? This will vary upon the session being traded, the numbers I am looking at are here: http://www.goforex.net/forex-trading-times.pdf
I am interested in the NY session's volatility.
Then, I will use the recent Oanda spreads listed here: http://www.fxintel.com/live/
EUR/USD: 78; 1.4 = 55.714.
USD/JPY: 69; 1.2 = 57.5
GBP/USD: 94; 2.6 = 36.154.
USD/CHF: 107; 3.4 = 31.471.
AUD/USD: 47; 1.9 = 24.737.
USD/CAD: 84; 2.6 = 32.308.
EUR/CHF: 49; 5.1 = 9.608.
EUR/GBP: 34; 1.7 = 20
GBP/JPY: 119; 3.5 = 34.
GBP/CHF: 129; 5.9 = 21.864.
AUD/JPY: 56; 2.3 = 24.348.
I think from above the higher number the better, so this means the USD/JPY, EUR/USD, GBP/USD, GBP/JPY are the four best considering volatility vs. spread.
If anyone has more recent volatility numbers per day per session let me know, thanks.
P.S. I should mention the margin requirement may have something to do with one's decision as well, where I note USD/JPY, USD/CHF, and AUD/USD have low margin.
P.S.S. I hate trading USD/JPY lol, it seems the volatility isn't there no matter what the numbers say.
