I only range and swing trade in equities. Calculating probabilities of the market bottoming out at certain levels and topping out at other levels...
However certain currency pairs trade in patterns that can only be trend traded.
I have some interesting observations... Going outside my comfort zone and trading some of the pairs that are more trendy lately like the AUD/USD and EUR/GBP(Which has been trending on and off). EUR/USD has been all range lately with a trending day on trend change days only in the opposite direction of the current trend. (1/5 days are trending lately.)
Anyway... What I have seen about trend trading is that it's pretty easy... It just requires you cut your trades REALLY fast if they are not performing... And hold them for quite a while.
As for my exact definition of trending... A pair that is trending is maintaining a trend speed that is AT LEAST half of it's range during that same period of time. That would be a 1-2 ratio trend to range. I prefer trading pairs that have around 1-4 and 1-8 trend/range ratio behavior.
