DislikedI can't keep up with this forum and so I'm unaware if this is already a known issue or not. If a duplicate, I apologize. I have real work to do and not be MQ's beta tester. (Alpha, really). I'm still using 509 and will until this considerable dust settles. I reported this bug as a Service Request, and on the MQL4 forum, and on one of my own threads regarding my indicator, P4L PeriodCon, but this bug I am now aware...Ignored

DislikedIf MetaQuotes are forcing Object-Orientated MQL5 onto programmers, then give us a decent IDE; i want to be able to pause and step into code to see variable values. Imagine creating an array of objects, each with their own data structures, it would be impossible to debug with Print() statements. OO is best left to proper IDE's like Visual Studio et al, not a minimalistic editor like MetaEditor. If i can set breakpoints as code executes that would be great, until then i won't even bother trying to learn OO MQL5, i'll just use OO .NET instead.Ignored
Disliked{quote}The "new" MQL4 language appears to have turned into a fairly close C# clone. And that's not necessarily a bad thing from my point of view.Ignored
Disliked{quote} I'm going to echo some of futurespec's sentiments. After an initial bumpy start with the forced installation, and until I changed my shortcut to use the /portable switch to get my old MT4 file structure back, and as a developer who generally isn't too thrilled with MT4 (pre or post 4.5) I can add the following about the experience so far: The new IDE allows setting breakpoints, pausing code execution while debugging and the ability to see variable values. I used all those features just a few minutes ago.Ignored
QuoteDislikedWhile the days of compiling and then reading the tea leaves with arcane error messages may have some on here harking for days of old, you won't find me longing for the old MetaEditor IDE. I actually like the fact that line and character of the error code are displayed both in MetaEditor and in the terminal experts tab when an indicator dies, rather than leaving no way to know what went wrong with the code. The "new" MQL4 language appears to have turned into a fairly close C# clone. And that's not necessarily a bad thing from my point of view.
QuoteDislikedGranted, the new MQL4 intentionally breaks all old code, presumably to bolster this new "Marketplace" business model by creating a need for developers to fix broken code.
QuoteDislikedThat's a pretty "tacky" way to drum up new MQL$ business IMO.
QuoteDislikedBy the way, to those who are afraid of objects, just don't use them. I haven't seen the need to create an object in the new MQL4, nor do I know how at this point in this language. I'm sure I'll get around to it if I see the need but remember that functions are a way to reuse code too and most developers have been creating their own functions for a long time in MQL4.
Disliked{quote}They will need the money - because they definitely lose a lot of customers to other platforms which they have to replace with Noobs which are lured by their marketing which is costly.Ignored
Disliked{quote} That's exactly the point here since they tried to attract traders to MT5 more than a year ago. They failed so now they find a way to force us ...Ignored
Disliked{quote} The reason most of traders who tried the MT5 was due to cosmetic improvements ... like if it was a new video game platform ...Ignored
Disliked{quote} They force traders who want to use MQ to upgrade to a new build which most of us don't want.Ignored
Disliked{quote}Of course we are free to not use it and go to another platform.Ignored
DislikedCtrader (this seems to be the most popular alternative) has a codebase and they dream of having a codebase like mt4.Ignored
Disliked{quote} Ctrade looks good on paper, and they seem to be a alternative to MT4. I downloaded their demo and I'm learning it. The problem is that all these companies lose contact with their clients. their clients are the traders not the brokers. It would kill Ctrade to go to forums like FF and listen to traders requests to EA and indicators. And code it for free, for a while until they get a good client base? They can hire 2 or 3 coders in china "cheap" and spit 10 request from traders a day. In no time they will have a indicator EA library bigger...Ignored
DislikedI never understood what's the difference between MT4 and MT5? Can somebody who's used both answer this? I agree with some of the comments before, for the few minutes that I used MT5, I didn't notice any changes. So why did MQ decide to put out another trading platform, MT5 in the first place when their MT4 was working fine? And the bigger question, WHY are they so eager in making us use MT5 when it seemed to me, if they have to use THAT much force to make us use MT5, it must be an really unpopular platform and the most logical thing to do with unpopular...Ignored
