Not good news really Claims dropped Rate rose So Total Labour Pool shrunk and Unemployed rate rose - both bad news

Let U1 = Unemployed before; T1 = previous total labour pool; T2 = current labour pool. U1/T1 = .077 (U1-12500)/T2 = .078 U1 = T1 * .077 (T1 * .077 )- 12500 = .078*T2 T1-(12500/.077) = .078*T2/.077 T1 - 162338 = 1.013 * T2

Unemployment rate went up from 7.7% to 7.8% Claims went down So the Labour pool shrunk, and unemployment went up. Both bad.
