Gold Prices Hold Steady, End the Week Up 1%

While gold prices dipped to $1,261.7 in today’s trading, the contract for December settlement on the COMEX division of the NY Mercantile Exchange reversed direction and ended the session essentially unchanged at $1,267.7. For the week overall, the contract gained $12 or just shy of 1%. While the dollar is stronger in today’s session, which typically puts pressure on gold, demand for gold is picking up in India, helping support prices, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal, which notes that festival season is kicking off and gold is traditionally given as a gift.
