Asian stocks plunge on Brexit fears

Stocks in Japan plunged Monday as worries about a potential exit by the U.K. from the European Union left investors scrambling for safe haven assets, sending the Japanese yen stronger and bond yields lower yet again. The Nikkei Stock Average NIK, -2.90% was down 2.8%, leading the losses in Asia. The benchmark is down 15% since the beginning of the year. “Japanese stocks are falling, reflecting a possible outcome of the U.K.’s referendum,” said Soichiro Monji, general manager of economic research at Daiwa SB Investments, referring to the possibility of the U.K leaving the European Union.
