Residents of southern Alaska were jolted awake early Sunday morning as a magnitude-7.1 earthquake struck the region. The quake shook about 30 miles east of Pedro Bay, Alaska, and 162 miles southwest of Anchorage around 1:30 a.m. Alaska time, according to the United States Geological Survey.
