Major 7.1-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Southern Alaska

Residents of southern Alaska were jolted awake early Sunday morning as a magnitude-7.1 earthquake struck the region. The quake shook about 30 miles east of Pedro Bay, Alaska, and 162 miles southwest of Anchorage around 1:30 a.m. Alaska time, according to the United States Geological Survey. Enlarge Scattered power outages were reported, but Anchorage and Valdez police departments have yet to receive any reports of injury or significant damage.
