Yen on the defensive ahead of BOJ, dollar also soft
The yen nursed losses against most of its peers early on Wednesday and is likely to stay on the defensive in case the Bank of Japan surprises by injecting fresh stimulus after its policy review later in the day. There is some speculation that Governor Haruhiko Kuroda could ease, rather than wait for a more crucial meeting on Oct. 30, when the central bank is expected to cut its long-term economic and price forecasts. Last year, the BOJ shocked markets by expanding its massive stimulus spending at the Oct 31 meeting and sent the yen tumbling.
