Flash Crash trader gets legal aid to fight extradition

Navinder Sarao, the trader accused of playing a role in the “flash crash” in 2010, has been granted legal aid as he tries to fight extradition to the United States and a £5m bail requirement that he has so far failed to pay. Mr Sarao has been in custody since his arrest on April 22 on US charges of market manipulation, wire fraud and commodities fraud. He faces weekly hearings at Westminster Magistrates’ Court because he has been unable to meet the conditions of his bail. The court heard on Wednesday that Mr Sarao has recently won legal aid, enabling his team of lawyers to begin work on the case against extradition. ... (full story)
