This release provides the first estimate of August 2014 public sector finances and is the first bulletin published using the European System of Accounts 2010 (ESA 2010) and the new ‘excluding public sector banks’ measures. Public sector net borrowing excluding public sector banks (PSNB ex) was £11.6 billion in August 2014, an increase of £0.7 billion compared with August 2013. The cumulative year-to-date borrowing figures provide a better indication of the progress of the public finances than the individual months.
