Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 209,000 in July, and the unemployment rate was little changed at 6.2 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Job gains occurred in professional and business services, manufacturing, retail trade, and construction. Household Survey Data Both the unemployment rate (6.2 percent) and the number of unemployed persons (9.7 million) changed little in July.
