Israel Rattles Markets With Missile Test as Obama Works Congress
Israel tested its missile-defense system, provoking war jitters in the Middle East as President Barack Obama sought to galvanize support in Congress for what he calls a “limited” U.S. intervention in Syria. Stock and oil markets were briefly rattled by Russian news reports of the launch of two missiles in the Mediterranean Sea. The Israeli Defense Ministry said it will release more details later. RIA Novosti reported that the missiles landed in the water. The demonstration of Israeli preparedness was a possible signal to Iran, Syria’s main regional ally.
