The announcement of Canada’s next central bank governor could come as early as this week, if the government and directors of the Bank of Canada agree on a successor to outgoing chief Mark Carney. Finance Minister Jim Flaherty has said he expects to make an announcement sometime this month. That would give the new pick at least a month before Mr. Carney takes his leave on June 1, on his way to taking the helm of the Bank of England.
