Italy's Monti Says Austrian Minister Comments Inappropriate
Prime Minister Mario Monti Tuesday said it is inappropriate for other countries to comment on Italy's economic situation, in a clear reference to remarks by an Austrian government minister. In a television interview late Monday, Austrian Finance Minister Maria Fekter questioned whether Italy's high borrowing costs could prompt a financial rescue of the peninsula. "It is totally inappropriate for ministers to comment issues referred to other [EU member] countries, and as such I won't comment her comments," Monti said at a press conference in Rome, when asked by a reporter.
