Sell in May and go away; don’t come back until St Leger Day. Just a silly rhyme or ancient City wisdom? Should you dump shares today and avoid reinvesting until the famous horse race in the second week of  September? Surprisingly, new research by FundExpert.co.uk suggests there are good reasons to take the rhyme seriously. They looked at 25 Investment Management Association (IMA) sectors or types of unit trust and found the St Leger strategy beat remaining fully invested in 23 of them over the last two years.
