Sir Mervyn King’s successor must show humility

Is Sir Mervyn King a tyrant? I only ask because the answer to that question will be one of the most important facing anyone who cares about the future of the City and, by extension, the UK economy. The “tyrant” accusation came last week from David Blanchflower, a member of the Monetary Policy Committee between 2006 and 2009. He claimed that Sir Mervyn “controlled the Bank with an iron fist” and “crossed the line [into fiscal policy] by endorsing the Coalition’s failed austerity programme”.
