Consumer confidence has crashed to an all-time low, a key survey has revealed. The Nationwide Building Society’s index of how people are feeling fell to 36 in October, having dropped for the past five months. Robert Gardner, Nationwide’s chief economist, said: “A wave of disappointing economic news at home and uncertainty surrounding the euro crisis has dealt a blow to sentiment.
