Australian Full-time jobs sink in May

‘‘It is weaker than expected,’’ said ANZ economist Riki Polygenis. ‘‘It does appear the Australian labour market is losing a bit of momentum.’’ The Australian dollar dropped on the jobs news, sinking about two-thirds of a US cent to about $US1.059 in recent trading. Today's jobs figures add to a slew of recent figures pointing to a soft economy, with about 79,200 full-time positions lost in the past two months. Data out this week showed construction had contracted for 12 consecutive months while massive floods across much of the country earlier this year contributed to the first quarterly shrinkage of the economy ...
