Will the US holiday affect forex prices? - Podcast
This week is the Thanksgiving holiday in the US. While holidays don't usually seem to affect long term trend they can be disruptive in the short term as many traders stay home from work and away from the market. That disruption may manifest itself as volatility that could leave a lot of stops exposed if they are too tight. If you are not taking the week off, the most important announcements are the BoE and FOMC minutes due on Wednesday. Traders are universally watching for additional or new rate cuts to see what the central banks are thinking. That may seem like mission impossible but it will not prevent us from trying to understand a little better what they are looking for. The NAHB and housing starts on Monday and Tuesday, in the US, could be big if we see in increase in either number. That is unlikely but, if it occurs the market could respond very strongly to it and it should be watched.
