Outgoing prime minister Antonis Samaras 'concedes defeat'
Outgoing Greek prime minister Antonis Samaras has conceded defeat in Sunday's general elections, the victorious anti-austerity Syriza party says. Mr Samaras telephoned to congratulate 40-year-old Syriza leader Alexis Tsipras, who responded that "there is joy and sorrow in politics," Mr Tsipras' office told AFP. Syriza was expected to take 36.5 per cent of the vote, ahead of Mr Samaras' centre-right New Democracy party which was seen taking 27.7 per cent, according to earlier officially projections.
