Japan’s Abe Sends Traditional Offering to Yasukuni Shrine
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe sent an offering to the Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo, following the visits this month of two cabinet ministers to the site that honors Japan’s war dead, including World War II criminals. Abe’s offering was made during the annual spring festival that runs until April 23, Tomoaki Higuchi, a spokesman for the shrine, said by phone today. The premier went to the shrine last December, the first visit by a sitting prime minister since 2006, prompting a rebuke from China and South Korea.
