Surprise lift in new Australia jobs numbers
The jobless rate has risen to 5.8 per cent last month, with 21,000 jobs added to the economy. Full-time positions grew by 15,500 while part-time jobs rose by 5,500, the Bureau of Statistics data released this morning showed. The participation rate remains stable at 64.8 per cent. The aggregate monthly hours worked fell 11.7 million hours, or 0.7 per cent, to 1.63 billion hours. The Australian dollar rose slightly on the news, lifting to US90.82c before falling back to about US90.60c. “It’s pleasing to see full-time jobs growth outperform part-time, reversing the trend seen through most of 2013,” Moody’s ...
