    • Retail index is higher than forecasted but lower than previous, it mean that things goes minus bad than supposed but the trend is down. No reasons to open champagne bottles.

    • well, since you ask, the markets have already started the journey down into a significant final leg of global depression and this little bit of good news (0.4% inflation adjusted change - and probably a lie anyway) is only enough to cause a little spurt of upward correction in equities until the next piece of bad news from Europe. International big money does flee to the USD as a reserve currency, but this feeble US news caused concerned investors to go to Gold. That's why the USD index went down - check XAUUSD index.

    • lol.. ofcourse no champagne bottles..
but when predictions are done its done by people who r into this for long time, like big traders and if their expectations are met (just predicting indexes) then it should go +ve with their trades, so why does it fall?
Or is it something biggy internal politics that give a lil hope and all traders will go with the flow.. and then do exactly opposite??
      lol.. just my weird prediction..

    • @chandresh, good news (a green number) is not necessarily a signal for experienced traders to "go with the flow" - remember we are talking about a US economy that is trying to recover and a 0.4% increase (altho positive) is not what investors with US interests hoped for after the Fed's failure to implement QE3 and all the squeezing of Big Media balls (to broadcast hype) by the Big Money
A good strategy at this point is probably to take any news with a pinch of salt and open a small EURUSD short position for 3 months. Once the EU has pulled everyone into depression, then re-evaluate.

    • @chandresh, the "predictions" and forecasts are not made by traders - they are made by university economics departments (a la Larry Summers) and by agencies who get paid to publish figures which have been massaged. I think you need to trade very carefully and read more!

I think it was Jake Bernstein that said, "Ours is not to reason why... ours is but to sell and buy." It is the fundamental nature of markets to be as unpredictable as possible. I have been observing that when a key statistic is only slightly bullish or slightly bearish that the market often reacts opposite to what you'd expect. You can adopt whatever explanation you like, for nobody truly knows.

Watch how the markets react to weak or strong news, adapt your strategy to it and trade, man, trade like a mad bugger!
