Hi Snowy - You may find this trend indicator of some use when determining the strength of a trend. It was developed by gspe for Lawgirls trend Almost Naken Trading thread.

Here's how to use it.

"Default location is the upper right hand corner with enough room left for an Expert to show up. The indicator can be moved on screen by using the X and Y locations in the user dialog.

The user can use any time frame they wish but there is a limit of five time frames allowed. Just use the standard M?, H?, D1, W1 or MN separated by a comma.

There's a true/false statement if you only want to see the name of current pair listed. You don't need to enter a pair name, just set this to true and the current pair will be listed.

Font size and color may be changed in the user dialog.

There's a true/false statement if you want to see the indicator placed in your RSI window (upper right) and a user choice to enter the name of the RSI that they are using, if it's different that the standard RSI(3)...so, if you have your RSI value set to 7 or something other than 3 you will need to change this in the user dialog. You must have a RSI window for this option to work.

The value of the arrows are set to reflect the strength of the RSI movement:
Sideways arrow reflects a neutral value a bit above and below the 3:00 position.
Angled arrow reflects a weak move in the direction of the arrow, aproximately 3:00+ to 2:00 and 3:00- to 4:00.
Straight up or straight down arrow reflects a strong move form the 2:00 to 12:00 or from the 4:00 to 6:00 positions.

We have tried to come up with colors for the arrows that show well on both light and dark chart backgrounds. The arrow colors can not be changed via the user dialog, they can only be changed inside the code."

I created some code to use the HH or LL of a set number of HA candls back for the candlestick trailing stop and wanted to see if this is what you wanted. Could you explain the reason why you want the SL based on a price where PA has not been on that candle. It looks like in an uptrend or downtrend the SL will widen from the PA and in consolidation it will move closer to the PA. I am already to make the changes if this is correct.

Can I get some input from other traders as well as to their thoughts.

My understanding of usinf HA candles as trailings is to stay longer in a clear trend if such araises. When using it if other features - like closed candle of different color we could survive longer in a successfull trade and get kicked out at a pretty similar level to regular candles if the market goes againts us.

Plus: its more clear to evaluate entries / exits when we can align those with the chart (where only HA candles live)

OK, I see what your saying and by looking at the screen shot I just posted I can see how the HA Lows and Highs are more into a nice rise or fall where the actual PA Lows and Highs are all over the place.

and: which greater trend do we want to watch for a trade-decision in m15?

100% correct! in strong trends its better not to have the sl too close at the PA, short countermoves could hit the sl. but when the momentum slows down and the trend is really turning slowly into the other direction, i want the sl closeer to the pa.
-> to get the most possible pips out of a trade.

So, as all you guys know, the M15 reversal set (original version without LWMA confirmation) got eaten alive.

Seller9's H1 scalping set is still moving along nicely. Just three trades last night (EU morning) with the pairs I was trading, but each closed in profit.

With the Seller set, I am also experimenting with having Steve's MPTM set running the trailing stop for this reason: MPTM has a setting which allows you to tighten this stop at predefined levels. So you can have a trailing stop of 30 pips kick in when the trade starts, then have that changed to 20 pips when the price reaches 50% of the TP, and then changed again to, say, 10pips when it gets to 80% of TP.

The reason I am using this is that I noticed that for a number of trades that had failed, the price had actually almost reached the TP before moving back and then finally hitting the SL. My settings are:

 

  1. Initial trailing stop = 25 pips
  2. Trailing stop at 50% to TP = 20 pips
  3. Trailing stop at 80% to TP = 10 pips

If there is any merit in this, this code could be incorporated into the bot, I am sure.

But even without this fiddling at the edges, I am still finding Seller's set to be doing a good job - and on a newsy day when other systems are finding it hard to cope at that.

hey,

i know the mptm, it has some very good features. and i'am a fan of the tightening trailing stop.

but: you use this with seller's scalping set? this set goes only for a few pips i remember.. so how to use a trailing stop with these settings?

I think the straightforward answer is, if all time frames are in agreement then only takes trades in the direction of the trend indicated by the RSI indicators. If the time frames are not in agreement or the arrows are pointing sideways then this indicates a neutral market, so take both long and short trades.

For the 15m time frame its probably safe to assume that the monthly trend would not be a factor, and perhaps the weekly. However the daily, 4h and 1h would be a factor in determining the trend. I think the only way to fine tune the use of this indicator is to add it to the chart and manually trade the system and observe the position of each arrow at the time the trade is entered.

I'll take a look and let you know how it works out. It maybe that this indicator can be used only as a manual directional bias that can be set at the start of each trading session.

i use different settings at the moment on different accounts. the LWMA5 settings had the fewest losers today during the strong trend. setfile attached.
