Happy new year to you! May I ask, you are currently like 3/4 year break even? Will that be a concern (since you are trading full time) if such conditions extend longer?

Hi Mattrix,

Not really because I do trade swings trades on lower time frames as well, that are not mentioned here.

For trend following, its common to have losing years, thus this approach is not suitable for those who wants to trade for a living (unless you're taking this approach on a lower time frame).

Rather, its more suitable for those who have a full time job, and wants to grow their money on the sides.

Sorry but I don't intend to discuss lower time frames on this thread. This is to keep its original intention of it, which is trend following on the higher time frames.

The principles are pretty much the same, just that I enter off the 15mins and 1 hour.

Thanks for the info and for clarifying, Rayner. Did u try it on lower timeframe? Asking this as I am curious to know what if you will regard all the higher timeframe or just the immediate ones. But ok if you choose not to answer as you mentioned the intention of the thread is not lower timeframe

Here is an update on the GBP/USD

I must admit I got out of this trade long ago with +60 pips, only I wish I had stayed in and followed the rules.
( impatience in this game is a curse )

As an afterthought,
the 1.4560 area + 300 pips would have been a good place to take profit, since it is major support on Weekly.

When you're trying to capture massive trends in the market, you need to endure multiple retracements against your position.

Some will stop you out for a small loss.

Some will stop you out for a small win.

Some will turn winners into losers.

But the thing is...

You will eventually capture a BIG trend, and it could make your entire year.

That's when you realized, it's all worth it.

Great words Fartist, completely with you on that. Participants should just realise it and get used to have a lot of BE trades because of trend retracements. But those trades that survive in a long trend would pay for all the small losses one can have on the way. Trend trading is GREAT.

Thought swing trader is a "legend"...
I mean, quite hard to find one, especially trading on monthly or yearly basis....

Another thing is...

Before you put on a trade, you need to know whether you want to let it ride, or you're just looking to capture a swing in the trade. All this planning occurs before the trade itself, and not during the trade.

The markets are always changing. Some would be more favorable to capture trends, and some to capture swings. There's no right or wrong here because it boils down to your interpretation of the price action, your risk management and psychology.

Seems like a lot of the trends have reached a points of retracement or consolidation.
I like the looks of the eur/gbp breakout, eventually.

Eur/Aud is starting to look nice.
Couple those with the Eur/Gbp.
And there are some continuations starting to move.
