Hi Guys, can anyone help me get this fantastic ea going now I have updated to build 600, its basically a very good trade manager that has buy/sell buttons on the screen and once a trade is entered the SL & TP ,Be etc can be dragged up or down, I have followed all instructions I can find everywhere, I can get the smily face to show in the corner but the only thing that's missing is the buttons.... there was something about MT4gui2 needs putting in the main mt4 folder which I have done but still no joy.. any ideas ??? {file}
Ignored
Yup. But I'm afraid that none of the ideas will be appreciated by you.

This EA relies on a DLL. Since B600 almost all DLL supported EAs are broken and have to be heavily modified on the DLL side to acommodate to the changes in B600.

The author himself wrote this really wonderful EA and published the binaries here on FF and decided all of a sudden to ditch any and all of the binaries and even the thread where this EA was published about one year ago.

As the author of this EA did not release the source code of the DLL and the EA, there is nothing you can do except to throw this EA into the dust bin when you're already running B600+

So you're only able to run this EA when you're still on B509 with a limited life time.

And even if the author decides to pick up the development, then the author has to adapt the EA and the DLLs for at least 9 months until MT4 is stable again. If I was the author, I would not even remotely think about this possibility.

If all of your trading relies on this EA - then you have to adapt to the new situation.

Sorry for no better news about this EA.

Lessons learned:

1.) MT4 ceased to be a stable platform for trading.
2.) MQ is not a trustworthy company any longer.
3.) Things where you do not have access to the sourcecode might stop working any time without advance notice and without any workaround.
4.) Adaptability to a new situation is a fundamental strength.

Hi: did you use it with the old version of MT4? Maybe it requires some library files (DLLs) ?

Meanwhile I used my MQL absence to learn R and to connect it to a tick based forex DWH. Everything got better for me the last four weeks since MQ wonked the Upgrade.

Good to hear that there is life apart from MetaTraitor4 (or MetaTrojan4, as I read somewhere else, LOL). My friend mim2005 has also been teaching himself R and has likewise found it extremely productive.

thanks guys,

the bin it is then,
if i was to stick with Mt4 what trade manager would you suggest ?
i am currently looking at cave manager see if i can get my head around this.

secondly, if you were to ditch MT4 completely as many have since the update, what platform would you move to ? my broker is UK FXCM, and only offer their trade station and MT4, and i really can't get on with trade station.....

mmmmmm trading on hold for a few days while i sort myself out i think.....

thanks again.

Hi Nel,

you're welcome. Here's the thread where it was all about the FXTM-EA - in case if you're interested into the background on the coder and his motivation to ditch development completely:

http://www.forexfactory.com/showthre...55#post6584055

As far as FXCM is concerned: I already asked Jason about the plans to incorporate cTrader @FXCM - but he replied indifferently - which I interpret as:"No". cTrader is quite similar to MT4 but not available at FXCM. cTraders trading process is quite sophisticated and superior to this of TS2 and MT4. Charting on cTrader is better than MT4.

I'm currently getting used to TS2 on FXCM. It's pretty sluggish compared to MT4 and has a few restrictions on the Stoploss/Takeprofit-distance to the current price which I do not like too much.

On the other side: The charting facility of TS2 is very sophisticated and I really like this mousewheel driven zooming in and out as well as the possibility to display tick charts in addition to the candles. This tick chart reveals some insights about the support/resistance structures inside the 5M entry candles.

As I trade by support/resistance lines only (supported by the fractals indicator as an eyecatcher) the charting features of TS2 are sufficient for me.

Then there's Ninjatrader @FXCM. I don't know too much about this yet.

http://www.fxcm.com/products/special...free-software/

Currently I'm running B509 on my live account because I've managed to block the upgrade just in time.

And then there's always the possibilty to switch to $OTHERBROKER for me when B509 stops working.

MetaTraitor - that's a good one. And astonishingly fitting ...

Yup - there's a life beyond MT4 and MQL. R is in fact a very productive platform in extracting profitable edges from huge datasets once you've managed to climb the very steep learning curve. And there's a large, scattered community especially devoted to trading. The first edge I discovered is: Indicators provide no edges.

When I think about the massive ammount of time I've wasted using the mediocre backtest feature when R always was around ...

Why - no! Of course R is no secret.

The R base package is gotten from here for free:
http://www.r-project.org/

Then you might want a nice GUI for R development, because base R is pretty hardcore.

I found RStudio most appealing for me:

http://www.rstudio.com/ide/download/desktop

Also for free.

And here's a very very sophisticated mailing list regarding the use of R in finance.

https://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/

The people writing there are really cutting edge on behalf of the math involved in trading.

Here's a screenshot of a currently running backtest of a SP500 trading strategy in Rstudio:

And here's a quickstart into the prediction functionality of R:

http://pastebin.com/jZUYK8Ai

The R script from pastebin above produces this one year prediction of a stock which I once owned.
It's just a scribble to get familiar with R - nothing serious.

Roumor in $OTHERFORUM has it, that MetaQuotes switched to Russian language for bug reports because the response of the english speaking community is not too amused.

I'm not proficient in Russian enough to verify or falsify that roumor.
"Vu ponimayu (po-angliska|po-nemets)?" and "spassiba" is all I can do in Russian...

The only thing which might add something to this roumor for me is the number of replies in both "Build 610" threads here:

http://forum.mql4.com/ru/
(811 replies as of the time of writing)

and here

http://forum.mql4.com/
(244 replies as of the time of writing)

If one russian speaking member of us would be so kind to verify (or falsify) this, please?

Had the thread translated via Google for me.

http://translate.google.de/translate...m%2Fru%2F60982

From what I'm seeing there is, that the russian bug reports are much more professional than the english ones. And the moderators are not as snappy as the English ones too. But that's only my first impression after quickly reading a few pages.

This adds up to my experience with Russian programmers who I experienced as very professional, skilled and hugely mathematically and scientifically oriented.

Edit: They're already at Build 616 ... at that pace they might have a stable platform at the end of the year...

I guess i should start to learn the mql5,is that correct?
Currently using build 610 so some of the old indicators need to be edited for it to work.

Hi Nelly, FXCM offers other platforms in addition to MT4 and Trading Station, including NinjaTrader. I don't want to take this thread off topic, but I'd be happy to answer any questions you have about our platforms in the FXCM thread: http://www.forexfactory.com/showthre...=8960&page=222

The answer is: It depends.

If you're already having a proficient knowledge base on Java, C# or C++ then you don't have to worry anything neither in MQL4 nor MQL5.

If you don't have such a ressource - then I'd recommend you to get on the Java/C#/C++ train first before worrying about MQL4/5.

The reason is: MetaQuotes is currently revamping its platform in a way which inherently leads to instability for at least another half year. At least!

So learning something based on a currently very volatile platform is a waste of valuable life time in my opinion because you might have to throw away twice the half of which you've already learned.

Even I for myself would not bother programming anything in MQL as long MetaQuotes is rebuilding its platform currently. My time is better invested in other projects.
